About

PPRS is a realization of the vision of the late Stuart Hauser, M.D., who, with Linda Mayes, M.D., chaired the Task Force on Research and Science created by Lynn Moritz during her presidency of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA). Members of the Task Force included Stuart Hauser, Linda Mayes, John Clarkin, Glen Gabbard, Eric Nuetzel, Stuart Ablon, Colleen Carney, Andrew Gerber, Steve Roose, and Beth Seelig. The board’s charge to the Task Force was to strengthen the components related to science within the APsaA. The Task Force immediately identified attracting researchers at various levels of expertise and experience doing psychoanalytically and psychodynamically relevant research as the best way to strengthen research within the organization. In order to accomplish this aim, the Task Force proposed to the APsaA that a separate society be formed with close connection to the APsaA. The proposal for the PPRS was accepted by the APsaA Council during the presidency of Prudence Gourguechon (2009).
